Tailored Training Boosts IzzoSew’s Business Growth Internationally.

IzzoSew Studio, a renowned provider of sewing classes and luxury retreats, has announced significant strides in their business expansion plans, thanks to support from South Yorkshire Skills Bank.

IzzoSew Studio teaches regular sewing classes for groups and individuals, hosting luxury weekend sewing retreats in Sheffield four times a year.  They also host Social Sewing Days six times a year and organise tailored corporate and social workshops.

IzzoSew founder and Director, Izzy Butcher, preserves a family tradition while embracing modern business practices.  Her great, great grandparents were mill owners in Yorkshire designing and making fabrics and her own business model engages with online communities worldwide.  IzzoSew produces seven sewing video tutorials monthly on pattern drafting – the process of creating a sewing pattern from scratch – for the largest UK fabric shop servicing the international home sewing community.  They have also developed a line of size inclusive sewing patterns for the home sewist available through their website.

To support their business growth plans, Skills Bank agreed to provide grants towards the costs of training courses at the University of the Arts London, focusing on Patternmaking – Experimental and Explorative Approaches, and Draping Womenswear Design.

Commenting on the impact of the grants, Izzy Butcher stated, “Our sewing patterns are already sold worldwide, and with the training developing further pattern drafting skills, we will be able to grow the line of sewing patterns quickly and innovatively to sell to the international market. Our business plan for the next year also includes developing our own-branded video tutorials which will uniquely show subscribers how to sew a specific pattern, designed by us, using the viewer’s own body block and exact body size.”

Buoyed by the acquired skills and expertise, IzzoSew is poised to expand its product offerings and enhance its global presence. Leveraging lessons learned from the training courses, IzzoSew plans to produce fresh and engaging content, catering to the evolving needs of the sewing community.

Looking ahead, IzzoSew aims to increase the long-term sales of sewing patterns internationally, building on the success of previous launches where collaborations with social media influencers propelled sales, particularly in the US market.

Louisa Harrison-Walker, who represents the three South Yorkshire Chambers (Barnsley & Rotherham, Doncaster and Sheffield) on the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority Business Advisory Board, said: “The Skills Bank service is funded by SYMCA to help businesses find the best possible support to invest in skills and training.  Skills Advisors are available throughout the region to advise and guide businesses around upskilling options and funding.”

The Skills Bank Programme has been extended until 2025 by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.  To find out more about obtaining Skills Bank grants towards training, contact your local Skills Advisor.
