“Skills Bank has been invaluable to getting our team working together”

Emissions monitoring firm Codel International have thanked South Yorkshire’s Skills Bank after nine of their senior team completed training secured through the programme.

Richard Hallam, General Manager of Codel, said: “We underwent something of a change at Codel – our long-standing director stood down and a new management team was put into place to drive our business forward and grow our portfolio.

“We identified that, although this new team were enthusiastic and driven, they weren’t use to working in this new structure and so our ways of working were at risk of being fragmented and siloed.

“We looked into training, but it seemed expensive with a lot of red tape. Our local chamber of commerce pointed us in the direction of Skills Bank.

“We pulled together a proposal with the help of a Skills Advisor who came to meet us and guide us through the application and the proposal itself. It was invaluable having the advisor visit us.

“This led to nine of our team undertaking the leadership and management training, and a people management course. Our management team is a young group, new to management roles, while the team itself is key to how our business operates.

“It was important that we got them to understand how to work together in a group, working together on decision making, being able to approach difficult scenarios, and dealing with employees on a one-to-one level.

“The training we received, and the support from Skills Bank, has been invaluable in getting our management team working together and pulling in the same direction with the aim of growing our business.

“We set out with ideas of what we wanted our management team to get out of the process. We wanted to get to a point where they are driving Codel’s growth, pushing business ideas forward and coming to me with new directions and ideas.

“We have already seen a change. Codel is going to benefit massively from coming through Skills Bank. We expect our company to grow further thanks to this training and the skills gained from the training.”

“I would absolutely approach Skills Bank again in the future.”
