Plant and Lifting Familiarisation Training (PLFC)

Essential Site Skills are an established training provider that has achieved success by responding to employer needs – the courses we offer have been selected based on our market research, expansive construction knowledge and employer feedback/demand.

Delivery will be conducted at our Plant Centre in Chesterfield and at employer premises as required/available. Costs and duration will be dependent on specific employer requirements as follows –

Appointed Person Training – £895

This course is aimed at supervisors and managers with responsibility for lifting operations. The course will give an understanding of the appointed person’s responsibilities and how to fulfil them.

Crane Supervisor Training – £900
Number of training sessions – 4

Cohort size – 3 to 6
This course will enable you to undertake the duties of a crane supervisor as defined by the appointed person. You will learn how to comply with legislation, regulations, Codes of Practice and industrial requirements.

Excavator Training – Novice – £875

Cohort size – 3 to 4
This course is aimed at people who require a basic introduction to 360 degree excavators above 10 Tonne including operation, maintenance and efficiency.

Excavator Training – Experienced – £1,450

This course is aimed at people who require advanced training on 360 degree excavators above 10 Tonne.

Forward Tipping Dumper – £700

This course is aimed at people who are required to operate Forward Tipping Dumpers to a minimum standard including the installation and operation of ancillary equipment.

Mobile Crane – £1,895

Cohort size – 3 to 4
This course is for people with limited or no experience of operating mobile cranes. It teaches you how to operate a mobile crane safely and productively including understanding of signals, maintenance and transport regulations.

Overhead Travelling Crane – £795

This course is for people with limited or no experience of operating an Overhead Travelling Crane. It teaches you how to operate and maintain an Overhead Travelling Crane safely and productively whilst explaining load calculations, lifting accessories and signalling.

Ride on Roller – £725

This course is aimed at people who require Ride on Roller training including operation, maintenance and hazard awareness.

Slinger / Signaller – £1,100

This course is aimed at people who require Slinger Signalling training to successfully support crane operators through identifying load capabilities, clear communication and recognising appropriate use of equipment.

Telescopic Handler – £900

This course is aimed at people who require Telescopic Handler training up to 9 metres including operation, maintenance and load capabilities.

Tower Crane – £1,450

This course is for people with limited or no experience of using pedestrian operated tower cranes including recognising signals, load capacity awareness, maintenance and productivity.

All training will be a mixture of classroom-based theory, pre-use checks and guided training to develop learner skills and competence.

Introduction (Level 1)

Who should attend: Those who require an initial understanding and overview of the JCT 2016 family of contracts, specifically focusing on the Standard Building Contract with Quantities (SBC/Q).

Intermediate (Level 2)

Who should attend: All those involved in the tendering, procurement or contract negotiations and legal frameworks required by any organisation. This course is for learners who have knowledge of the JCT 2016 contracts but need some guidance on the practical aspects of using the contracts.

Advanced (Level 3)

Who should attend: All those involved in and managing tendering, procurement or contract negotiations and legal frameworks required within any organisation. This course is for experienced JCT 2016 contract practitioners.

Masterclass (Level 4)

Who should attend: All those involved in and managing tendering, procurement or contract negotiations and legal frameworks required by any organisation. This course is for very experienced JCT 2016 contract practitioners and is ideal for scenario based problem solving.

 

The outcomes will contribute to employer competitiveness by increasing overall skill levels, allowing for wider and more efficient distribution of employees across projects to support sustainability and profitability through additional tender opportunities. A focus on newer more reliable equipment will also improve efficiency, reducing noise pollution and levels of harmful omissions, increasing employer status as an environmentally conscious organisation. In addition, this training will enhance machine safety, which is the second largest killer within the industry.

Fundamentally, the goal of this training is to support business growth aspirations and increase the number of highly skilled occupations within the SCR region.
