APM PMQ (Project Management Qualification)

The APM PMQ (Formally known as APMP) (IPMA Level D, SCQF Level 7)

The qualification is a knowledge based qualification developed by APM, which allows candidates to show their understanding of all elements of project management. This qualification is an internationally recognised qualification. The candidates will show their understanding of how a project fits into the strategic and commercial environment. The qualification is for those with some pre-existing project management knowledge. This qualification can be carried from one job to another, one industry to another.

Prospective project managers or key project personnel looking to develop their project management understanding and career skills
Project managers who are looking to gain a formal, and widely recognised project management qualification

There are 2 potential routes to take regarding exams

APM PMQ 3 hour exam (10 from 16 questions)
APM PMQ for PRINCE2 Practitioners 2hour exam (6 from 10 questions) providing this is within the timeframe

General Principles for the exam

Candidates have a choice of which questions they answer
Keywords denoting questions types are: List and Describe, State, Explain and Determine
Each question will cover a single learning outcome
Only give the number of answers required. For example if the question asks for five explanations, the first five will be marked and the rest disregarded.
Examples from the workplace are not required and often add nothing to, or detract from, the answer provide

AMP PMQ Project Management Qualification Syllabus overview

What is assessed?
This assesses breadth of knowledge in all areas of project management and covers the knowledge areas from the APM Body of Knowledge; including project life cycles, budgeting and cost management, earned value management, conflict management, leadership, negotiation, procurement, risk and issue management and teamwork.

PMQ for PRINCE2 Practitioners
This route is specifically designed for registered PRINCE2 Practitioners. This route allows the candidate to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding beyond PRINCE2 to prepare you to deliver success in critical areas such as budgeting, cost management, conflict management and teamwork. From the 73 assessment criteria examined in the syllabus, 26 are covered by PRINCE2 Practitioner and you are only examined on the remaining 47; including communication, earned value management, procurement and negotiation.
