Stage 1 Hydraulics (BFPA/MERs)

KNOWLEDGE BASED OBJECTIVES

On completion of this course Candidates will know:

  1. the fundamental principles relating to pressure, flow and direction that underpins the operation of all hydraulic systems
  2. the function and operation of the major system components
  3. how to read and interpret basic hydraulic circuit diagrams
  4. the importance of hydraulic fluid and contamination management at all times
  5. the safe measures to follow in respect to hydraulic hoses, relating to selection, identification and installation
  6. the safe working practices associated with maintenance procedure

SKILLS BASED OBJECTIVES

( 1 day Centre based at the NFPC)

During the Practical Skills Development Day, Candidates will engage in the following:

  1. reading and interpreting basic hydraulic circuit diagrams
  2. constructing working circuits from given information
  3. selecting, installing and setting up prescribed components following recommended procedures
  4. carrying out performance testing using basic diagnostic tools
  5. working with live hydraulic systems and the required safe working procedures

This course meets and exceeds the British Fluid Power Association (BFPA) Minimum Educational Recommendations. Designed for those involved in the maintenance and management of machines and systems incorporation HYDRAULICS. This course provides a foundation of knowledge and skills designed to improve work based performance and safe working procedures. It is a prerequisite for those wishing to gain a formal Competence Based Qualification at the NFPC.
